Look it’s our iPad/iPhone app, we’re finished! Wanna know who’s in it besides the donuts, waffles, cookies, pies, crostata, cupcakes, and all else? While the video loads? Kiernan Shipka, aka Sally from “Mad Men.” Also: Mark Bittman (NYT). So’s Christina Tosi from Momofuku/Milk Bar and Brooks Headley from Del Posto and David Lebovitz from your favorite food books. J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr wrote us a theme song he calls “Alien Parfait,” which is just one of many excellent tunes (Cults, Bleached, Bubbles!). There’s more too, have a peek!
Here is our favorite eater: Elizabeth’s daughter Darla. Accompanied by her young comrade Julia, herself no slouch in the scarfing department. Anyway, this is in the app, this is what the app is like. You’re going to be stoked. We are! —Love, Erin
PS that’s Bubbles again on the soundtrack! They are America’s finest band, we promise you.

Our mega-talented editor gave us this to show you as an idea of what our app’ll be like in, oh, say, probably September. I think. The music is by the dance-party vivants known as Bubbles, a duo from NYC whose music you should get immediately! Many more early looks to come. —Love, Erin McKenna

In which young Oliver (my nephew and godson) tires of watching us ladies fumble with the Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC’s Madeleine recipe, dons his customized bakery outfit, and doses a batch of cookies with some magical powers and helpful advice. Thanks, Ollie! —Love, Erin McKenna.
If you are at all interested in food, and in particular baking, and are not already reading the magnificent pastry chef/author/Parisian expat David Lebovitz’s blog, you need to start immediately:davidlebovitz.com. It is probably the best free education you’ll ever come across. I first met him a few years back when he popped by Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC and found him to be one of my absolute favorite people to be around. He is hilarious and knows lots about nearly everything.
We made this video on his most recent trip, when he stopped by the bakery to meet some fans and sign copies of his latest book, The Sweet Life In Paris. (Go get it now, are you crazy!?) We squeezed in a quick conversation about a bunch of things, followed by a donut tutorial from the latest Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC book, BabyCakes Covers the Classics. Then David modeled, or tried to model, the new Built By Wendy uniforms the bakery girls wear … I’m talking full almost-frontal-but-definitely-topless Lebovitz!
Thanks, David! Come back soon, please …
Ten years ago today, on August 25, 2001, the world lost Aaliyah. To honor her and her well-known love of the dessert course, we’ve started making this pretty indulgent waffle concoction on occasion that we’ve been calling The Aaliyah. You can have one too, if you’d like, and if the chocolate-covered strawberries haven’t already disappeared by the time you make it in. Just ask. Thanks for all the inspiration, Aaliyah. We miss you. — Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC

Hello again, Friends and Loved Ones. I have a new cookbook! It’s calledBabyCakes Covers the Classics: Gluten-Free Vegan Recipes from Donuts to Snickerdoodles. I featured but a small sampling of the new desserts in the above video, because I couldn’t really be expected to feature ALL 50 of the recipes included in this book that is now available for pre-order wherever you buy your favorite reading materials online and will be in actual stores on April 12, 2011, right? That would take forever. You’d turn it off before you ever got to the Thin Mints, or the Whoopie Pies, or the Pancakes, or the Hamentashen, or the German Chocolate Cake, or the Sugar Cookies… it would be like 45 minutes long! I’m hoping Donuts, Waffles, Mounds, and Madeleines are plenty for you to understand all the exciting places this book of recipes will take you. —Love, Erin McKenna.
This thing was directed by David Mettler, produced by David Mettler and Chris Cechin, and edited by Justin Gallaher. It was also shot by David Mettler. Lastly, David Mettler, David Mettler. Thanks to Clarkson Potter for publishing another book for me! BOOKS!
Hey look, me and the bakery crew went to the park!
The song, “Go Outside,” is courtesy of my niece, Madeline Follin, and her BF, Brian Oblivion. Their band is named Cults and currently they’re on tour in France of all places! The shirt designs (there are two!) are by Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC’s own Lizz Hickey and Chelley Sherman. The video was directed by David Mettler, shot by Jon Miller, and edited by Justin Gallaher, as usual.
Hello December! We’re just going to put it right out there: This one is an absolute doozy, and for good reason… we’re finally just about almost kind of ready to open up the Los Angeles outpost of Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC! So we called some of our pals and pulled this nifty little item together: There is action, furry Sasquatch, ZZ Top, showgirls, a jacuzzi. There is a farmer and some chickens and a stationwagon. Really there is nothing this thing doesn’t have! Brace yourself, Southern California: Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC opens in Los Angeles December 2009 (we’re built, just waiting on the final bits of paperwork!!). Probably over-spazzy updates here erinmckennasbakery.com.

When the girls get behind in their frosting duties, sometimes they need a little inspiration to get the job done. Here’s a peek at a typical day in the bakery…
Special thanks to this excellent rap band for helping the ladies along and also to Bob Red’s Mill for always being so kind to us.
Directed and Produced by all the usual people…
Baking with BabyCakes the Book of Recipes is super easy if you follow the rules! Watch Erin take Blanch to school in this really special cookbook helper video!
This little slice of “high-definition” magic is in honor of the publication of my first-ever baking book, BabyCakes. I’m obviously pretty excited. When the first copy arrived at my doorstep, I hurried it on over to Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC the bakery, sizzled up the juke, and started going very nuts. Then all the other girls joined in. I expect this is what all of 2009 is going to be like! It’s out May 5!!! Love, Erin McKenna.
